Moving can be a stressful process, and that is under the best of circumstances. Fortunately, there are a number of things that you can do to ensure that your belongings are protected, and the entire moving process goes as smoothly as possible in the face of poor weather.
Be Prepared
You should check the weather forecast a few days before you move so that you are aware of the potential weather conditions on moving day. The best way to move in inclement weather is to delay entirely so that it clears up; however, this isn't always an option. In lieu of that, make sure that you have materials that you can use to protect both yourself and your belongings in the face of poor weather. Clear the Walkways

Cover the Furniture
In the rain or snow, you'll have to make sure that your heavy and bulky items are completely covered up with blankets or tarps that will prevent water from seeping into the upholstery and potentially causing damage. You should also position your furniture in your home so that it can be moved to the truck as quickly as possible; by minimizing the amount of time spent outside, you will also be minimizing the potential water damage that your furniture may experience.

While cardboard is extremely inexpensive and easily available, plastic boxes will offer a great degree of protection to your most valuable items while moving when it is raining or snowing. However, if you didn't have time to get plastic boxes before moving day and the rain outside is torrential, you can always make use of bubble wrap or tarps secured around cardboard boxes to provide an extra waterproof layer on the outside.
