Closing Next Week? 3 Tips For Packing And Moving Out Fast

Posted on: 3 January 2018

With today's mortgage rates being so low and the inventory of available homes being so small, it has become a seller's market. Because of this, many homeowners are able to sell and close on their homes in a relatively short timeframe. If you are a seller who will be closing on their home sooner than anticipated, getting packed and moved out so the new owners can move in will be a priority. With these tips, you can pack up and move out within a short period of time.

Room by Room

If you had the available time, you would most likely pack up your belongings however you wanted. If you need to pack up and move out within a small timeframe, such as a week, it is best to go room by room.

Start the process in less popular rooms of the house, such as a spare bedroom, guest room, home office, and dining room. Since these rooms are not used as often, you will not need to be in the rooms or use items from these rooms.

Once you work through these rooms, you can go through the more popular areas of the home. Save the kitchen for last because you will probably need the food, cookware, and dishes up until the day of your move.

Purge As you Go

You may think packing everything as you go room by room is best because you are short on time, but that is not necessarily true. You will not have the time to go through and purge unwanted or broken items before you start packing, but you should donate or  trash these items as you are packing.

Make a few piles as you go room by room. Make a pile to donate certain items to a local charity. These items should be in good condition. Another pile should be designated for trash. Broken toys, damaged furniture that cannot be fixed, and torn, worn clothing should be disposed.

Purging your items will reduce the amount that you have to transport to your new residence, which will make your move more efficient.

Clean During the Process

Last, but not least, you will need to leave the home somewhat clean for the new owners. Of course, moving everything out and then cleaning thoroughly may not be possible due to time constraints. Thankfully, you can clean each room during the packing and purging process.

Keep a furniture and sanitizing wipes near you as you go room by room to pack and purge. After packing up your belongings, wipe down furniture, crown molding, shelves, and countertops with a dusting cloth. Use a dusting tool to reach cobwebs on ceilings, fans, and light fixtures in each room, as well.

Use bleach wipes while packing and purging your bathroom space. Bleach wipes are capable of removing hard stains and heavy dust while killing harmful germs and bacteria.

By moving room by room, purging, and cleaning during the process, you will be able to pack up and move in an effective and efficient manner. Contact a residential moving service for help.
